Favorite class at VSB and why?
Honors Innovation and Design Practicum (VSB 3900) taught by Dr. Scott Newbert: This course taught a creative approach to problem-solving and design-thinking that mimics the world’s most innovative organizations. Dr. Newbert taught his class in a unique manner—a "flipped classroom" approach—where the class executed a semester-long project in class after completing readings on the foundations of design for homework. The knowledge I learned from this class has been applicable in many aspects of my life and I firmly believe it's essential knowledge for any future business leader.
Most important thing you learned?
Networking and other complimentary professional development skills. Through ample exposure to employees and countless group projects, I believe VSB students have an edge entering the workforce. Not only are we well-educated, but we have an ability to integrate quickly into roles with proper office etiquette. We have a foundation in verbal and written communication, presentation skills, and an ability to excel in individual and group settings. With an accessible alumni network and emphasis on networking, many students have forged strong relationships to help launch successful careers.
